Canon Pixma MX882 Printer Review

Date: February 15, 2011

New York, NY — Recently released by Canon, the Pixma MX882 AIO printer is a 4-in-1 (print, scan, copy, and fax) device with a plethora of user-centric features. Compact in size at 8.6″ (H) x 19.4″ x 17.7″ (HWD), it produces pages at a reasonably quick 12.5ipm for monochrome and 9.3ipm for color.

The MX882 can be connected to your PC or Mac via USB 2.0 Hi-Speed, Ethernet, or wirelessly. There are also slots for printing directly from memory cards and a PictBridge/USB port. One of the most dynamic features of this device is a dual-function keypad. While in print, scan, or copy mode, the display shows only the keys you will need for those functions. When in fax mode, a number keypad is illuminated. Also as part of the abilities of the MX882 is Canons patented HD Movie print which grants users to print still images from selected Canon video recorders and cameras.

One of the devices main strengths is in its paper handling. The overall paper capacity of the MX882 is listed at 300 sheets. That is divided between a 150-sheet paper cassette as well as 150-sheet paper feeder. The total capacity is somewhat more than other devices in the $200 price range. In addition, the device comes with a 35-page ADF which should make the scanning, copying, and faxing of documents easy and painless. Last but not least, the machine is equipped with an automatic duplexer, so two-sided prints are a breeze in either direction.

The MX882s ink system consists of five separate cartridges so you will only ever have to replace the one thats out. The five colors are: black (pigment-based), cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (dye-based). No information is provided on Canons site with regards to page yields, but we would think the black pigment cartridge would yield roughly 300 pages and each of the four dye-based tanks, 200-250 apiece.

Overall, this product from Canon can serve both home offices or small businesses well. Considering its feature set, the $200 price tag is very reasonable.
