Software Review: TuneUp Utilities 2012
Introduction
Every time I install a new operating system, or reinstall an existing one, I always find myself amazed at how fresh and snappy the computer seems to run.
Then I begin to install the operating system updates.
I suppose many, or most of these updates are necessary. Does the system slow down a bit at that point? I really can’t state because I usually go into my next step:
Time to install all the programs I use.
Some of these programs are necessary, some may not be. Some stay resident in memory, some do not. Each one I install, however, seems to dull those razor sharp edges of a freshly installed OS. Then there are the ones that I install, and then uninstall for a variety of reasons. It seems like every one of these install/uninstalls leaves some sort of crap laying around. Anti-virus programs are the worst, some simply won’t uninstall without using some “special” uninstaller.
This is where a special type of program comes in handy, namely tuneup programs. Some are very focused in scope, such as defragmentation programs. Some are quite broad in the tasks they can perform. These types of programs may not be for everyone as many of tasks that they perform you can do yourself, and/or are built into the OS. Some are not. If you do not use such a program, you do need to do many of those tasks yourself. If you remember to do so.
For me, I neglect to clear my browser cache often enough. When things begin going South in my browsing sessions, I often find myself doing that mundane task to get things going in the right direction again.
TuneUp Utilities 2012 is one of those Swiss Army Knife utility programs that does a bit of everything to improve various performance parameters, troubleshoot various computer problems, and personalize your PC. If it can take care of some of those mundane tasks automatically for me and keep that OS edge a bit more razor sharp, I could be happy!
